Supima Cotton

/suːˈpiːmə/

Supima is a trademarked name for American-grown Pima cotton — the top 1% of global cotton production, prized for extra-long staple fibres that produce softer, stronger, more durable fabric.

Understanding the Term

What makes Supima different from regular cotton.

Supima stands for Superior Pima. It's grown exclusively in the United States — primarily California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas — under the oversight of the Supima Association. Less than 1% of the world's cotton qualifies.

The defining characteristic is staple length. Supima fibres average 35–38mm, compared to 25–28mm for standard Upland cotton. Longer fibres mean fewer joins per yarn, which means smoother surfaces, fewer pill points, and dramatically better drape.

Supima isn't a marketing distinction. It's a measurable, verifiable physical property. The Supima Association tracks every bale from field to mill using DNA fibre testing to prevent counterfeiting. When you buy certified Supima, you're getting exactly what the label promises.

Why It Matters

How Supima cotton changes the garment.

The fibre difference you feel on day one and day three hundred.

01

Unmatched Softness

Extra-long staple fibres create a smoother yarn surface. This isn't softener-treated softness that washes out — it's structural softness that actually improves with each wash.

02

2x Durability

Independent testing shows Supima cotton resists pilling, tearing, and fading at roughly twice the rate of conventional cotton. The longer fibres simply hold together better.

03

Colour Integrity

Supima's uniform fibre structure absorbs dye more evenly and retains it longer. After 30 washes, Supima garments show 50% less colour loss than conventional cotton.

Our Standard

100% Supima. No blends. No compromises.

We source certified Supima cotton with a minimum 35mm staple length. Every batch is verified through the Supima Association's supply chain tracking. We don't blend with cheaper cottons, synthetics, or elastane. The t-shirt is 100% Supima — fibre to finish.

Common Questions

Supima cotton — your questions, answered.

Everything you want to know about premium cotton.

Supima is a subset of Pima. All Supima is Pima, but not all Pima is Supima. Supima must be American-grown, certified by the Supima Association, and meet strict quality standards that generic Pima does not require.
